About me
Hello my name is Jacqueline Holterbosch. So happy you visit my website! I am a Dutch painter and writer living in Holland.
My creative journey started many years ago with an old box of paint and many brushes my father left me after he died. Alongside being a businessman and and a father he was an artist and art collector. About his collection I will tell you later.
Anyway he left me 170 brushes ( watercolour and acryl brushes) some huge sumi e brushes of horse hair, an old box with beautifull acryl paint colours, oil paint, japanese ink, chinese ink, watercolour boxes, some with little containers with even water in it from the last time he painted outside. Some jars and tubes with names and substances I had to search the internet for their use!
It was as if he said: ‘go on now it s your turn!’ And so I did. I taught myself by trying again and again untill something in me said yes this is it. In my studio I have a picture of my dad and many times I talk to him.
What I love about my work is that I combine almost all of the materials of my father, there was so much that everytime I was tempted to buy something new, I said to myself ‘work with what
you have’! This led my creativity.
I am so gratefull for what was given to me. I hope you enjoy my work. Feel free to reach out and ask questions. I answer all personally.
About my work:
It is refined in the image that I show but it is rough as well: because it is multilayered you see structure and bumps and brushstrokes and if you look closely you will even see some hairs from the brushes of my father.
I work with traditional ink to paint the flowers. I grind the ink from ink sticks. It is an ancient technique that gives a very soft and translucent color.
The paper flowers are painted on special Japanese paper: xuanzhi or wenzou. This gives this very delicate touch to the painting.
I love the combination of the robust acrylic background and the delicate image of the flowers. Like life: it can be robust but the art is to stay soft.
